Shopping My Closet for #SCADFest
Grimm was invited to participate in this year's Atlanta TVFest sponsored by Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), which was a big thrill for us, since our show is usually overlooked by the festival set. We were told NBC would cover grooming and that we'd have an hour of on-camera press after our panel, so Bits, Bree and I commenced wardrobe discussions.
We all agreed that "smart casual" was the order of the day, i.e., no need to buy something new. I scoured my closet for something appropriate, taking into account the fact that I would be running straight to the airport post-press for a five hour flight with a lap child, so jeans were a must. I mean, what was actually a must was an adult one-piece pajama and a glass or something red, but being a parent is all about compromise. I picked this A.P.C. pair of jeans that I bought recently to replace my pre-pregnancy perfect pair, the fly of which now laughs hysterically when I try to zip. It's not even close. This shirt is one of my very favorite "night out" tops. It's by Lauren Moffatt, who is sadly no longer in business. Her prints were the best I've ever seen. This is the kind of top that requires almost nothing of the wearer to look good. My hair and face can be a five car pile-up wreck and this top will make me feel instantly put together. It was purchased on sale at Steven Alan for about $150.
Finally, I loved the way these Opening Ceremony boots looked with bare ankles, which was lucky since I forgot to pack any socks. I bought them on sale at American Rag in LA a million years ago... They somewhere under $200, since that's generally my shoe dollar threshold.
Lovely lady Amy Strozzi somehow coaxed the bags out from under my eyes (Cal likes to stay awake the nights I need him to sleep the most) and new hero Dallin James perfectly tousled my locks. The festival was a wonderfully laid-back affair and we all had a great time catching up off campus before the end-of-season push gets crazy (we're finishing episode 518 right now). The only drama came courtesy of Cal's bowels on our flight home. He was recovering from a particularly gnarly stomach bug and busted through all four of the diapers I'd brought on the plane with two hours of flying time to go. The poor guy was sitting in a MacGuyvered wash cloth/paper towel situation under his pajama pants when we finally touched down in PDX. Really hoping Diapers.com starts carrying baby hazmat suits before I have to travel with the munchkin cross country again...
